<p>The base was established as Air Corps Advanced Flying School, Lubbock in 1941 and was renamed Reese AFB in November 1949. It hosted the Air Corps Advanced Flying School in 1941 and was upgraded after the war to conduct all-jet training by mid-1951. Reese continued to provide TB-25N training between 1955 and 1959 before switching completely to the T-33A. The T-38A was added in 1963 and the T-41 two years later. The major flying unit was the 3500th PTW from October 1949 until October 1972, when it was replaced by the 64th FTW.
